Decontamination Lead

Details of position: East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust is a high performing Trust with a track record of achievement, a successful early implementer of the 18-week pathway, and has obtained university, and most recently, foundation Trust status. The Trust has five sites and covers a population of 720,000 in both rural and urban areas, there are pockets of both affluence and deprivation making these a challenging but rewarding role.

You’ll professionally manage all decontamination issues, primarily the development of a Trust-wide governance structure for decontamination. You’ll be expected to work within the framework of clinical governance and patient safety, supporting the delivery of quality services which are mirrored in patient feedback and satisfaction.

You should have substantial experience in NHS management, supported by a professional qualification (or equivalent) in the management of sterile services or a related discipline. Excellent communication skills are required to manage a busy and challenging agenda. You’ll have the support of the anaesthetics and nursing and quality directorates and will be supported with further development in meeting career aspirations.

Most positions with the Trust require a Criminal Records Bureau check and will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Posts working regularly or unsupervised with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced check. East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All positions within the Trust working regularly or unsupervised with children or vulnerable adults will require an enhanced check to be carried out. All other posts will require standard checks. Salary: Band 8a £37,996 - £45,596 per annum

The James Paget University Hospital considers ‘Decontamination’ as an important area to ensure our patients have the highest delivery of service.

In light of this, due to the retirement of the HSDU Manager, the role has been re evaluated to have a much higher profile across the Trust. You will be the expert and lead on the decontamination strategy Trust-wide.

In essence this is a new position and requires an individual with:

  • A sound knowledge base in all sterile service management/process and decontamination issues
  • Experience of managing change particularly across professional and divisional/department boundaries
  • Strategic vision and able to communicate, influence across the Trust up to the Trust board
